Refreshing Green Smoothie Recipe

That long awaited summer heat is here full blast and we’re always looking for something light and refreshing to help cool us down.  Many people turn to ice cold lemonade, watermelon or a refreshing wheat beer. What if I told you that you could enjoy something cool and refreshing that was actually good for you?

This green smoothie is not only jam packed with vitamins, minerals and healthy fats, but it’s also shockingly refreshing.  Adding mint or ginger to your smoothie is one of the easiest ways to kick up the refreshing factor.  Plus, they’re great for you.  Ginger is a wonderful natural anti-inflammatory while mint aids in digestion and has great Vitamin C and beta carotene properties.

I’ve started  growing a small garden of my own, making it really convenient to add herbs like parsley and mint to all my meals.  I recommend using as many organic ingredients as possible in your smoothie.

Here is the recipe to make my favorite refreshing Green Smoothie:

1 cup spinach or torn kale leaves
1 cup torn romaine leaves
½ cup chopped cucumber
½ cup chopped celery
1 small pear (or ½ large), cored and chopped
1 banana, chopped (preferably frozen)
1 cup water or coconut water (i prefer
1 tablespoon of fresh mint
1 tablespoon of fresh parsley
½ to 1 whole lemon, juiced
½ tablespoon chia seeds
¼-inch slice ginger root, peeled
pinch of cayenne, optional
pinch of cinnamon, optional
pinch of turmeric, optional

Blend everything together until it’s completely smooth and enjoy!
